Fail Safe Electric Actuators

Fail Safe Electric Actuators are available with ball valves, butterfly valves, vball control valves and 3way ball valves. The following are the most common types:

  • Very Expensive Starting at $ 2,500 for the Actuator
  • Often Requires 4-8 Week Lead Time
  • Often Requires Custom Mounting Bracket which adds to cost and lead time
  • Spring Force Limited to Closing up to a 4" 2way Ball Valve or 3" 3way Ball Valve
  • Spring Will Lose its Mechanical Force Over Time, May not be able to Close a Valve Fully, Needs to be Tested

Commercial HVAC Spring Return Electric Actuators


  • Low cost and normally used for indoor applications in building controls on heating systems and chilled water systems with brass ball valves and butterfly valves.
  • Torque limitation only allows up to 4" butterfly valves with double stacked actuators
  • Slow cycle time can be 90 to 120 seconds. some new models are faster

Fail Safe Spring Return Air Actuator


  • Moderate to Medium Cost
  • Lots of Torque Options, Can Close Large Valves
  • Requires Air Compressor, which Can Be Expensive to Operate and Maintain
